The display faults we see most often
- Flexgate on 2016-2019 MacBook Pro models: the display flex cable fractures, producing the well-known "stage light" pattern, and stripes appear depending on how far the lid is open. Apple's exchange program for this has ended — the workshop handles the cable fix.
- Staingate: the anti-reflective coating detaches and leaves milky blotches behind. The remaining layer is stripped off gently.
- Cracked glass: a drop or pressure causes cracks and fractures, frequently followed by black blotches in the image.
- Rarer patterns such as Dustgate, isolated pressure marks or a dead backlight are familiar territory for the workshop too.
Through emonis you ship your MacBook in with a free DHL label; the repair itself is done by Sadaghian ("Die Mac-Retter"). Their approach: fix the display rather than replace it, whenever that's technically possible. Your original assembly stays installed and only the faulty part gets swapped. How much does a MacBook display repair cost?
That depends on whether your panel can be saved: fixing the existing display runs from €180 (Staingate) to €340 (Flexgate on the 15/16-inch models), depending on the fault. If the panel has to be renewed (panel swap, the assembly stays original), the price follows the size — €420 to €740, with the classic Air 13" (A1466) at just €180. The free analysis settles which route it is; you pay only after your approval.
How long does a MacBook display repair take?
For display problems the free analysis is usually done within one working day of arrival. Once you approve, the repair itself usually follows within a few working days — depending on whether the panel gets fixed or replaced. Allow 1-2 working days each way for the free DHL shipping.
Can I replace a MacBook display myself?
We'd advise against it: modern MacBook displays are glued assemblies with extremely delicate flex cables, and after a swap True Tone and calibration have to be right. One torn cable quickly turns a display fault into a logic-board fault. At the workshop, installation, a functional test of brightness, True Tone and camera, plus the 12-month warranty are all part of the price.
