MacBook Data Recovery — from €150, Pay Only on Success

Locked out of your data after a logic-board failure, water damage or a drop? For MacBook data recovery (iMac too), the files are retrieved straight from the board or the SSD — frequently even after other providers have already given up. Sending it in and the analysis are free.

Typical signs

The most important thing first: switch the device off and keep the charger away — every additional attempt to boot risks compounding the damage. Data loss usually traces back to one of these: a failed logic board, water damage or a drop. And on modern Macs — M1 through M5 as well as Intel machines with the T2 chip — the SSD hangs off the logic board at the hardware level. Recovery here necessarily runs through board repair: restore it until the system comes up again. The welcome side effect: in many cases you end up getting back not just your files but a working machine as well.

Apple Silicon (M1 through M5): here the flash storage sits soldered onto the logic board and is hardware-encrypted through the SoC's Secure Enclave. Desoldering the NAND chips leads nowhere — without the matching SoC the contents stay unreadable. There is only one workable route: restore the logic board to the point where the system starts again. This applies to every Air and Pro model across the whole M-series.

T2 MacBooks: on Intel machines with the T2 chip, storage is likewise hardware-encrypted and locked to the board. Recovery therefore runs through logic-board repair in exactly the same way.

After liquid damage: coffee, water or wine — whatever once got into the board quietly keeps corroding there. The workshop cleans thoroughly and then repairs at component level, severe cases included.

Why go through emonis: data recovery on modern Macs boils down to chip-level logic-board repair — precisely the daily work of Sadaghian ("Die Mac-Retter") since 2015. You ship in for free, get a cost estimate after the analysis, and only then give the go-ahead. Your data is handled confidentially; the workshop's working copies are deleted once everything is handed over.

What it costs

What MacBook data recovery costs depends on the damage — the free analysis puts a concrete number on it. As orientation:

  • from €150 where the SSD is still socketed and can be pulled (Macs up to roughly 2017)
  • €200-400 for straightforward board-level repairs
  • €400-600 for medium complexity
  • €600-800 for heavy damage

Payment is strictly on success: if the recovery fails, there is nothing to pay — diagnosis included. Shipping is free throughout Germany; the analysis typically follows within 1-2 working days of arrival. Your rescued files go onto an external SSD — either put one in the box yourself or add one from the workshop.

From our workshop

  • MacBook Air 13" (M5, 2026) · mailed in from Münster · €480 — Data recovery on one of the newest Apple Silicon models; the rescued data went back complete on an external SSD.
  • MacBook Pro 14" with M2 Pro · mailed in from Hannover · €360 — The power-management chip on the logic board had failed; without repairing the board, the data would have been out of reach. After the chip swap the board came back up and the backup was made right there in the workshop. The machine has been in normal use ever since.
  • MacBook Pro 16" from 2019, Intel with T2 · mailed in from Oldenburg · €200 — Suddenly black overnight: no picture, no boot sequence, zero liquid damage. Because the SSD on T2 Macs is locked to the board, board repair was the only option: a short sat on the main power rail PPBus_G3H, and the charging IC had died and was renewed. The board then ran stably enough for Target Disk Mode — every file came off intact.

FAQ

Do my files survive a MacBook repair?

As a rule, yes: the existing logic board gets repaired rather than exchanged — so the SSD stays where it is and your files go untouched. Only when a board has to be swapped outright, or the device is a total loss, does data recovery become its own step, which is offered as well.

What does MacBook data recovery cost?

From €150 where the SSD is still socketed and can be read out on its own — that covers models up to roughly 2017. With a soldered SSD the route runs through board repair: straightforward cases come to €200-400, medium ones €400-600, severe ones €600-800. The free analysis names the concrete price up front as a cost estimate — and payment is strictly on success.

How long does data recovery take?

After your MacBook arrives, the free analysis with its cost estimate follows — usually within 1-2 working days. After your go-ahead, the recovery itself typically takes 5-10 working days depending on effort; an involved logic-board repair can take longer. Add 1-2 working days each way for the free DHL shipping. The rescued files come back on an external SSD together with the device — either your own from the box or one added by the workshop.

The hard drive in my MacBook has failed — are the files gone?

In most cases, no. What's colloquially called the hard drive is an SSD in a MacBook: socketed and directly readable on models up to roughly 2017, soldered onto the logic board on everything newer. Even when the machine no longer starts at all, repairing the board almost always leads back to the files — frequently even after other providers have already given up.

How does shipping work — and is it insured?

You request the free DHL label in 30 seconds — no account needed — drop the parcel off at DHL or Deutsche Post and follow every step online. The shipment is insured, and return shipping is free as well.

How do I pack my MacBook safely?

Power the device off, wrap it in bubble wrap or a soft cloth and seat it in a sturdy box with padding so nothing can shift. Only include the charger if it is part of the problem. The step-by-step guide is at emonis.com/versand.

How long is my MacBook away in total?

Allow 1–2 business days of shipping each way. After arrival, the free analysis follows within 1–2 business days; you then decide based on the cost estimate, and the repair time itself depends on the damage. You can see the current status in the portal at any time.
